Handwoven Vest

This project was woven using a homemade frame loom and multicolored ribbon weft to create a handwoven vest. A variety of yarns and embellishments were used, including novelty yarn, sequin and lace trims, beads, and handmade scrap fabric twine. This project combined skills learned in my weaving course with design skills in order to create a unique woven garment. I wasn’t initially sure if it was possible to create a garment on a frame loom, so I created a rough pattern based on the measurements of the loom that I had available, in order to gain a rough understanding of the possible garment size. When making this vest, I challenged myself only to use materials that I had on hand, whether they were second-hand or left over from prior projects. I didn’t start out with any specific idea in mind for the pattern, but rather allowed the materials I had available help dictate what I would weave.
