Utility Made Useless
This project explored the question “What happens when you remove the functionality from traditional utility garments?”. In an answer to this prompt, I evaluated coveralls, a garment typically used to protect the majority of the body during heavy labor. I played with the silhouette of the coverall, changing it from a jumpsuit into a dress. I also evaluated the use of utility fabrics, incorporating duck canvas, a traditionally utilitarian fabric, contrasted by a softer quilted cotton. By using pink, a traditionally feminine color, I provided more contrast to the traditionally masculine original garment.
